FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set

The Skill Set is designed to impart a sound understanding of fundamental accounting principles, modern techniques useful in the analysis and interpretation of financial information, together with the learning opportunities surrounding general bookkeeping and accounting, activity statements, payroll and more.

A program ideal for those in accounting and bookkeeping roles who use knowledge of accounting principles to perform a range of analytical tasks in a variety of industries, those aiming to study the Diploma of Accounting and those looking for a CPE activity to update existing skills and knowledge.

The units of competency in this skill set provide credits towards the FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. Completion of this Skill Set is one of several options to meet the entry requirement of FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting; and a partial entry requirement for FNS60217 Advanced Diploma of Accounting.

 

What will I Learn?

This skill set is designed for workers in accounting and bookkeeping job roles who use knowledge of accounting principles to perform a range of analytical tasks in a variety of industries. This Skill Set reflects the roles of workers who perform complex tasks in a variety of industries.

Individuals in these roles apply solutions to a range of often complex problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources, including relevant legislation and taxation systems. They apply initiative to plan, coordinate and evaluate their own work and provide guidance to others within defined guidelines.

The Skill Set contains Diploma level units which qualifies individuals who apply integrated technical and theoretical concepts in a broad range of contexts to undertake advanced skilled or paraprofessional work and as a pathway for further learning. Graduates at this level will have specialised knowledge and skills for skilled/paraprofessional work and/or further learning and have technical and theoretical knowledge in a specific area or a broad field of work and learning.

Graduates at this level will have a broad range of cognitive, technical and communication skills to select and apply methods and technologies to:

  • analyse information to complete a range of activities
  • provide and transmit solutions to sometimes complex problems
  • transmit information and skills to others.

Graduates at this level will apply knowledge and skills to demonstrate autonomy, judgment and defined responsibility in known or changing contexts and within broad but established parameters and gain technical and theoretical knowledge and concepts, with depth in some areas within a field of work and learning.

 

Licensing/Regulatory Information

No licensing, legislative, or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

On successful completion of this course, you will gain a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment and earn 14 CPE hours.

 

Entry requirements

There are no formal requirements applicable to enrolling in the Skill Set. Applicants must however demonstrate they meet the requirements listed below:

  • At least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment
  • Access to a computer and internet connection
  • Good language, literacy & numeracy skills.

Assessment Information

Assessments for this course will be provided on your learner portal, which is accessible via Desktop, tablet or mobile.

These assessments vary depending on the unit within the qualification and can include the following:

  • Quizzes
  • Written tasks and/or case studies.
  • Verbal assessment, by way of an interview with your trainer
  • Observation by a trainer
  • Supervisor checklists

To enable completion of this qualification you will require an internet connection to access learning materials and assessments via ISM’s eLearning Portal.
