Australian Apprenticeships / Traineeships
Australian Apprenticeships/Traineeships are the best way to combine training and employment and they can lead to a nationally recognised qualification. Contact an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) in your region or see the below information.
New Entrant Traineeships
Employers are encouraged by the Commonwealth Government to participate in training schemes to up-skill the Australian workforce. Traineeships are a great way to fulfil compliance obligations as well as offering new and existing staff a Nationally Recognised Qualification as part of their employment contract. A New Entrant Traineeship is generally a 24 month qualification which is funded by State Governments meaning the training costs are paid by them to the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and the Commonwealth Government provides incentive payments to the employer. Available traineeships through the Institute of Strategic Management are:
- BSB42015 Certificate IV Leadership and Management
- BSB30115 Certificate III in Business
- FNS30115 Certificate III in Financial Services
- FNS40815 Certificate IV Finance and Mortgage Broking
To be employed as a New Entrant Trainee a person must:
- be an Australian Citizen or hold a New Zealand passport and have been an Australian Resident for 6 months or more; AND
- Be initially employed as a Trainee or have been employed for less than 3 months full time or 12 months part-time by their employer; AND
- Be over 15 years of age and willing to undertake an appropriate qualification in their field of employment.
The Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) co-ordinates the traineeship, it links the employer, the trainee, the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and the government together to ensure that everybody fulfils their obligations throughout the period of the traineeship. (A representative will come to you and go through the Traineeship Application Form with you)
Benefits for Employee

If a Trainee has a qualification at a Certificate III or higher they can still be employed as a New Entrant Trainee. Their fees are paid to the RTO by the NSW Department of Education & Training. However, the employer is not entitled to any incentive payments. There are a number of incentives available to employers; more information is available from your Australia Apprenticeship Centre (AAC). The trainee receives on the job training, regular contact with a trainer or assessor, training resources, individual training program.
